The Under 10s team are back training on Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 12:00 and despite the weather this week an enthusiastic group of around 35 players turned up. There were lots of familiar faces and a few new ones too which was great to see. Lots of the boys seem to have sprouted over the summer and will probably be peering down at some of their coaches very soon. We are focusing more on developing players’ skills in the context of the game this year so each of the areas this week – passing, tackling, rucking and evasion – were covered in mini-games. The session ended with a tag and a contact game, before the tired, wet but happy kids headed for the club house.

The 2010 group returned to training on Sunday mornings at 10.30 after a restful summer break. We split up into 3 grids passing, tackling and evasion, we do 4 game based drills in these grids. Tackling is especially a big challenge this year and we are enjoying a learning new skills and look forward to trying them out when we play opposition in Early October and at least one game every month following. All the coaches are a great help and deserve all the thanks (and beer) they get. We have a weekly award this week the winners were the 2 Liam's Liam McDevitt and Liam Patterson

U12's
The U12s had a packed schedule this weekend. We hosted a successful bring a friend training session and BBQ. Thirteen young men joined us to sample the rigors of U12 rugby. Afterwards, we feasted on a Justin Verrechia inspired bbq with burgers, hot dogs and drinks. After a successful night, we prepared for our first game of the season versus Suttonians. Some of our guests from Friday made their competitive debut after one training session. The new players got stuck in and played with joy. The games were competitive as the boys adapted to the wider pitch. Some nice tries scored by both U12's teams with hooker Leo McGratten bursting over the line to score a try against our bitter rivals. While in the other game Robert Besse converted successful teamwork into a hat trick of tries. After a successful weekend, we look forward to the senior teams first home game of the UBL and the U12's joining them on a trip to Sligo RFC.
